We will only process personal data (generally “data” in the following) only on the basis of necessity and for providing a functional and user-friendly web presence, including its content and offered services.

According to Art. 4 Number 1 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (EU) 2016/679, “processing” means any operation or set of operations which is performed on personal data or on sets of personal data, whether or not by automated means, such as collection, recording, organisation, structuring, storage, adaptation or alteration, retrieval, consultation, use, disclosure by transmission, dissemination or otherwise making available, alignment or combination, restriction, erasure or destruction.

In this document, we inform you on the manner, extent, purpose, duration, and legal basis of any processing of personal data, insofar as we decide on the purpose and means of processing ourselves or together with others. We also inform you on third-party components we use for optimization and usabiltity improvements, insofar as this involves third parties processing data in their own right.

Our privacy policy is structured as follows:

I. Information on us as data controllers
II. Rights of users and data subjects
III. Information on the processing of data

I. Information on us as data controllers

The data controller for this web presence as defined by the GDPR is:

II. Rights of users and data subjects

With regard to the processing of data as described in the following, any user or data subject has the right to

  • obtain confirmation as to whether or not personal data concerning him or her are being processed, further information on the processing of data, and a copy of that data (cf. Art. 15 GDPR);
  • obtain rectification of inaccurate personal data concerning him or her (cf. Art. 16 GDPR);

Additionally, the data controller is required to communicate any rectification or erasure of personal data or restriction of processing carried out in accordance with Art. 16, Art. 17 No. 1, and Art. 18 GDPR to each recipient to whom the personal data has been disclosed, unless this proves impossible or involves disproportionate effort. The user has the right to be informed about these recipients if he or she requests it.

In accordance with Art. 21 GDPR, users and data subjects also have the right to object to the processing of personal data concerning them, insofar as this data processing is based on point f) of Art. 6 No. 1 GDPR. In particular, the user or data subject can object to processing data concerning him or her for direct marketing purposes.

III. Information on the processing of data

Your data processed during your visit to our web presence will be erased or made inaccessible as soon as the purpose for storing it ceases to apply, processing is not necessary for compliance with a legal obligation, and the following does not contain a contrary statement for individual processing methods.

Server Data

For technical reasons, especially to ensure that our web presence is secure and stable, your internet browser transmits data to us or to our web space provider. These so called server log files record the type and version of the browser you use, your operating system, the website that linked you to our site (referrer URL), the pages of our web presence that you visit, the date and time of those requests, and the IP address from which the requests were made.

This data is stored temporarily and separate from other data relating to you.

The legal basis for storing this data is Art. 6 No. 1 f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest is in the improvement, stability, functionality, and security of our web presence.

This data will be erased after seven days unless a longer storage is necessary for evidentiary purposes. In that case, the data is exempt from erasure in whole or part until the respective incident is fully resolved.

Cookies

a) Session cookies

Our web presence uses so-called cookies. Cookies are small text files or other storage methods that your web browser stores on your device. Cookies process certain information such as your browser or location data or your IP address.

This processing makes our web presence more user-friendly, effective and secure, for instance by supporting multi-language functionality.

The legal basis for this processing is Art. 6 No. 1 b) GDPR, insofar as these cookies concern the arrangement or performance of a contract.

If the processing does not concern the arrangement or performance of a contract, our legitimate interest is in improving the functionality of our web presence. In that case, the legal basis is Art. 6. No. 1 f) GDPR.

Session cookies will be erased when you close your web browser.

b) Third-party cookies

Our web presence may use cookies from partner companies with whom we collaborate for the purpose of marketing, analysis, or providing functionality for our web presence.

For further details, especially concerning the purposes and legal basis for the processing of such third-party cookies, please refer to the following sections.

c) Blocking and restricting cookies

You can block or restrict the installation of cookies in the settings of our web browser. Also, you can erase stored cookies at any time. The actual steps and procedures required depend on what web browser you use. If you are unsure how your web browser handles cookies, please refer to its help function or documentation or contact its manufacturer or support. The processing of so-called Flash cookies cannot be blocked in your web browser’s settings. Instead, you will need to change the settings of you Flash player accordingly. Again, the actual steps and procedures required depend on what Flash player you use and we ask you to refer to your Flash player’s help function or documentation or contact its manufacturer or user support.

Blocking or restricting the installation of cookies may cause some functionality of our web presence to be limited or unavailable.

Contacting us

If you contact us using a contact form or by sending an e-mail, we will use the data you provide for handling your request. Providing this data is necessary for handling and answering your request – without it, we cannot respond to your request or at best in a limited manner.

Legal basis for this processing is Art. 6 No. 1 b) GDPR.

Your data will be erased once your request has been fully resolved and processing it is not necessary for compliance with a legal obligation, such as a possibly following contract.

YouTube

Our web presence uses YouTube. This is a video platform by YouTube, LLC 901 Cherry Ave., 94066 San Bruno, CA, USA (“YouTube” in the following).

YouTube is a subsidiary of Google Inc., Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA (“Google” in the following).

By participating in the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield Framework

Google and, by extension, its subsidiary YouTube guarantees that the data privacy requirements of the EU will be respected when it processes data in the U.S.

We use YouTube in combination with its “enhanced data protection mode” function to embed videos. Legal basis is Art. 6 No. 1 f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest is improving the quality of our web presence. The “enhanced data protection mode” will, according to YouTube, cause the data described below to be sent to the YouTube servers only if you actually play a video.

Without this “enhanced data protection mode”, a connection to a YouTube server in the U.S. will be made as soon as you visit one of our web pages that embed a YouTube video.

This connection is required to show the respective video on our web page in your web browser. In this context, YouTube will record and process at least your IP address, the date and time, and the visited web page. Additionally, a connection to Google’s advertising network “DoubleClick” will be made.

If you are logged onto YouTube during your visit, this information will be matched to your YouTube account. You can prevent this by logging out from your YouTube account before visiting our website or changing the respective setting in your YouTube account.

For the purpose of functionality and analysing usage behaviour, YouTube will store permanent cookies on your device via your web browser. If you do not agree to these cookies, you can block them in your web browser. For further details, refer to the “Cookies” section above.

Google provides further information on how it records and uses data as well as your rights and protection options in its privacy policy found at
